Inspired by a talk and a few targeted questions raised by writer/director David Bruckner (THE SIGNAL, VHS) Atlanta Film Festival 365 was inspired to organize a What's Next? discussion in April of this year, bringing together the community to have an open forum to talk about the film community's needs and overall goals.
What should be our next steps? What elements are holding us back? What are our strengths? What can we do to help filmmakers get what they need here to succeed? What areas are only going to be filled by going to L.A. or N.Y.?
A head of that date, I'd like to get a dialogue going here on Film Engine.
So what is Atlanta's film community missing? What have we seen in other cities, states, countries we can steal, borrow, adapt? What are our challenges?

We're missing Asians on the Board of Governors/Directors of the AFF, and Asians on staff at AFF.
Why don't you address these issues Charles? And ask Linda Burns to address them as well.

It's a valid concern about ATLFF and ATLFF365. However, it's not a point that applies to the larger film community in Atlanta. If you want to dump that into another thread, that's what Film Engine is here for.
This discussion should be less about any one organization and more about the community as a whole.

As a semi-newcomer to Atlanta, I get a sense a lot of the moving pieces are here, but yet it feels disjointed. I spoke to a couple of long-time Atlanta filmmakers a few years ago and they described the scene as being very segmented.
Personally, I'd like to see some sponsorship by the active veterans in the community. For instance, as an aspiring director who is ready to shoot, perhaps having a list of credible equipment vendors and crew members to discuss potential partnerships with would be helpful.
From a writer's perspective, I've seen a lot of bootcamps/seminars pop up here and there. I'd love it if those in the know would step up and endorse certain programs so as though those in the dark can feel better about investing.
With any booming industry, predators take advantage. I'm willing to bet the more seasoned community players know generally who and what to stay away from.
It's this type of general guidance that I believe would help reinforce the community aspect as well as nurture new talent while paying respect to established members who have valuable services to offer.
