Hey There. Great site, appreciate the effort. Wanted to get feedback from the more experienced users here. What are your thoughts about Atlanta's screenwriting scene? We all see that the city's popularity in production is growing, which undoubtedly provides great opportunity for crew members, especially with experience. However, I've yet to see a place where local screenwriters fit in, aside from Indie projects. Recently, I was approached by a local ProdCo that expressed a desire mine talent locally for all of their projects. I was disheartened to hear they ultimately turned to L.A. agencies to find scripts. Charles wrote a great article about the Atlanta Film Scene, cinematlmagazine.com/wp/2010/12/20/building-up-atlantas-indie-film-scene-part-1-does-atlanta-have-an-indie-film-scene/ and hoping for a second part to touch on the writing scene.

The writing scene has a few bright spots between ASG, Blank Page, Write Club, Push Push. However Atlanta is underdeveloped in strong programs to help develop screenwriters. And we probably need to tackle networking and access.
Overall, between acting and screenwriting, there's probably not the focus on those two areas that should exist. The main issue being that if you want to raise a project's profile, as well as Atlanta's, those areas are were you can make the greatest strides.

I'm glad you posted that old piece of mine, because I still think it applies to today. Especially this part:
"Those elements each play a part, most definitely. However, having a dynamic film scene, an interesting film scene, is at its heart, all about conversations, continuous growth, new challenges and constant reinvention. It’s about being in a place where risks are taken and filmmakers push each other creatively. It’s about an environment that fosters the development of new voices and building up an excitement that extends beyond the core film community."
I still believe that. However, I'm not sure everyone agrees with me that does not mean you support everyone or champion every project. I think we have to be more targeted than that.
There are times to be open sourced and aim wide, there are times we need to be focused and strategic with our time and resources. Creating a space that fosters screenwriting at this time requires being focused and strategic.
